Concerto da camera, or in English chamber concerto, originally was one of the two types of concerto grosso, the other being the concerto da chiesa ("church concert"). The concerto da camera had the character of a suite, being introduced by a prelude and incorporating popular dance forms.
Antonio Vivaldi and Georg Philipp Telemann were great exponents of this form. The differences between the Opus 10 concertos and their concerto da camera predecessors are mainly in terms of instrumentation, with the “full-concerto” versions pitting solo flute against strings, while the chamber concerto versions are more about combination and dialogue of solo timbres, of flute, bassoon, violin and oboe, underpinned by /5(2).
A flute concerto is a concerto for solo flute and instrumental ensemble, customarily the works have been written from the Baroque period, when the solo concerto form was first developed, up through the present day. Some major composers have contributed to the flute concerto repertoire, with the best known works including those by Mozart and Vivaldi.
